Eve ISK Guide – Trade Routes

April 20th, 2010 admin No comments

Eve ISK Guide – Trade Routes

Eve ISK Guide - Trade RoutesOne effective way to really pile up some serious wealth, and build your ISK account, is to find, keep, and exploit profitable trade routes. Nearly everyone interested in making quick honest money in Eve is familiar with the subject of Trade routes, but specific details about good routes are hard to come by. Traders are not an overly chatty bunch when it comes to giving away their secrets, but with a little persistence, luck, and effort, an enterprising trader can discover their own routes to profit from.

Eve ISK Guide – What is a Trade Route?

A trade route is not a physical thing; it is more a relationship between two points. In the free market of EVE, the only law that governs the market is that of supply and demand. When choosing a destination for your cargo, make sure you take a look at the current going rates in different areas. It is highly likely that a supply of low grade electronic parts will fetch a really high price in an area suffering from a shortage of electronic parts.

Eve ISK Guide – Finding a Trade Route

There are a couple of ways you can find good trade routes. The easiest, and yet time consuming, way is to do a thorough market research whenever you are docked at a station. Monitor the prices being offered for goods in different areas. Quite simply, buy at low rates and sell on high demand. Your ship plays a major role in the success of running good trade routes. If it is large enough, you can make a good deal of money on even a modest margin through utilizing your time better. But with small cargo holds the best option would be to make your trips worthwhile.

Importantly, trade routes should be planned well. For instance, it is highly profitable to make the trade runs with a full cargo hold going both ways. Which means that not only should you learn what the other station needs, you should be aware of what the local demand market as well.

Eve ISK Guide – Eve Contacts

You may be able to buy and sell without being too chatty, but those who want to spread their wings and really be ’somebody’ never underestimate the value of good contacts.

The NPC stations will always have their needs and wants, but a far more lucrative market can sometimes be found catering to the needs and wants of specific corporations. Make acquaintances with as many people as you can, and try to along on good terms. Being reasonably tactful and diplomatic when required are skills not everyone can boast of. But those who can build a list of contacts, and a network of associates, will ensure a continuous and respectable profit.

Eve ISK Guide – Keeping Your Mouth Shut

The most important lesson a trader learns is discretion. In the EVE universe, trade routes are not just idle things to brag about with friends and whoever else is within hearing range. Large scale wars are fought by corporations over the control of profitable routes. There are times when even tight lipped and secretive traders get themselves in a fix when new competitors learn about your territory.

Eve ISK Guide – Eyes Wide Open

Eve ISK Guide - Trade RoutesIt is always important to know the level of risk you can take on a particular commodity. If you are earning low profits in a low security area, you’d be wiser to consider another profession than trading. A trader has to be smart and calculating, if you can’t match your results with the risks you take then there is no hope of your getting ahead in Eve.

It is a purely logical fact that the low security areas have a high demand, high priced market. So if you are game enough, and your ship is worthy of chancing the route, then low security areas will earn better profits than any other part of Eve. However, if you try this, it would be well advised to pay close attention to your ship’s insurance policy and your own clone. In case you do bump into a pirate, there should be some backup to keep you going without losing skills and your ship. Plus, to avoid being podded, keep a close eye on your scanner and always give yourself at least 30 km to make a safe escape from the prowling pirates.

Eve ISK Guide – Be Swift, Be Efficient

When choosing a trade route, try to make sure that your destinations are within a reasonable distance each other. The longer you take moving between points, the slower your capital will grow.

Once you are well enough established, with a safe cushion of money in the bank, you can always try putting in automated ‘buy orders’ at NPC stations where you can get a good price. This will give you time to concentrate some other interesting aspects of Eve.

Eve ISK Guide – The Right Skills
Successful traders are charmers by birth, but you can work on your skills to gain the two most significant characteristics of a thriving trader, willpower and charisma. Make sure you set these attributes high.

For the not-so-scrupulous people, the shortcut to some big ISK deals lies on the darker side of the law. Get a good grip over Underhanded Trading Practices as a skill from the very beginning and cash in later when you have made yourself.

Eve ISK Guide – Mission Running

April 19th, 2010 admin No comments

Eve ISK Guide – Mission Running

Making ISK in EVE can be tough. Fortunately, one of the easiest ways to make a little spare cash is available to everyone: Agents. You were exposed to several agents in the course of your tutorial, and probably ran a mission or two. Though it starts slow, running missions is a way to get your bankroll, especially once you start getting into the higher levels.

Missions can be fun and offer a wide range of experiences. They can also be last long and give little reward. However, Eve Isk Guide - Mission Runningsometimes you are able to get some nice items in missions, especially when you mission is to blast some pesky pirates into oblivion. Those combat oriented quests are called kill-missions and offer the opportunity to hunt NPCs in your private area with some extra cash thrown in.

Missions also earn you Loyalty Points. This is your Frequent Flyer mileage in EVE. Each corporation keeps a separate record of all missions you completed for them. Loyalty Points can then be spent like cash in exchange for items, blueprints or even rare faction ships.

Eve Isk Guide – Agents

Each agent is described by four parameters: corporation, division, level and quality. It’s always better to pick one corporation and work for it. That way you’ll accumulate Loyalty Points and your standings (the corporation’s view of your character) will increase steadily, giving you access to more profitable missions. Division determines the agent’s responsibility. Kill missions are easily obtained from Security, Internal Security, Intelligence and Command division agents. Level determines the difficulty (and reward) of the mission. It also gives an idea of a ship class you need to succeed. Level 1 missions are easily done in a frigate or a destroyer. For Level 2 cruisers work best. You can also use a cruiser for some Level 3 encounters but a Battlecruiser (BC) is strongly recommended. To attempt Level 4 missions you’ll need a Battleship with good equipment and strong skills. In return you can easily make 50 million ISK per hour (or more) including salvage and loot from Level 4 missions. The final attribute, quality, determines your cash reward and also slightly influences difficulty. Quality -19 mission will be much less profitable and a bit easier than quality 20 mission of the same level.

If you can’t pick the corporation to work for, start with your race’s military. That means Amarr Navy, Caldari Navy, Republic Navy or Federation Navy. They offer good rewards and good quality kill missions of all levels. Use the agent finder linked above or watch the video tutorial.

To maximize your profits, make sure you salvage the wrecks. Dedicated mission runners should also consider training the skills below at least to level 4. Once you get to this level, you can start making some serious ISK.

Eve ISK Guide – Mission Running Tips and Tricks

* During a conversation with an agent you can read the description of a mission you’re about to receive (the ‘more details’ dialogue option). Try to avoid missions against other races’ navies and rogue drones as there is no bounty on them. You can refuse a mission offer once in 4 hours without fear of losing standings.
* Try to find a system with two or more agents available. That way you’ll have a better chance of getting a profitable and enjoyable mission.
* You can scout a new mission type in a cheap, disposable shuttle. That way you can safely check what’s waiting for you in the first deadspace location. You’ll probably lose the shuttle but NPCs won’t fire on your capsule. It’s better to lose a 9.000 ISK shuttle than a 10 million ISK cruiser.
* CONCORD can appear in a mission area in high-sec so watch your fire!

Eve ISK Guide – Manufacturing Skills

April 11th, 2010 admin No comments

Eve ISK Guide – Industry Skill

This skill is the number one must have skill for all forms of manufacturing. This skill not only gives you the ability to build but for each level, it also reduces the amount of time it takes for items to go from minerals to finished product. While you can begin building at level 1, it is highly recommended that budding industrialists wait until level 4 before starting. Level 5 is optimum and should be a top priority in the skill training schedule.

Eve ISK Guide – Mass Production Skill

For each level this skill is trained, you are allowed +1 factory. At Level 5, you can operate 6 factories simultaneously, and thus should be one of your top skill training priorities, especially when you consider that most T1 ships take 3+ hours to build.

Eve ISK Guide – Advanced Mass Production Skill

Introduced with the release of RMR, this skill picks up where Mass Production leaves off giving you +1 factory per level. At level 5, this skill combined with Mass Production 5 will allow you to operate 11 factories simultaneously.

Eve ISK Guide – Production Efficiency Skill

Also known as PE, this skill reduces the amount of minerals it takes to build items. If you look on a blueprint original or copy, you will see under Bill of Materials a list of minerals needed to build each single run of the item. If you have any PE skill level under 5, you will also see how many minerals it will take for you to build according to your PE level. BPO vs BPC

Blueprint Originals (aka BPO) are those that have no limit to the number of production runs and can also be researched for Mineral Efficiency (ME) and Production Efficiency (PE). Right of the market BPO have 0 research done on them. To increase ME and PE, one would have to invest time in training Lab Operations Skill and Science Skill or hire someone with those skills to do the research for you. The general rule of thumb is the higher the ME the less minerals required and the higher the PE the less time it takes to build. BPC (aka blueprint copies) are limited in the number of production runs can be made before the bpc is destroyed. BPC are copies made from a BPO and thus cannot be researched. The advantages of having a BPO are you never have to worry about running out of production build blueprints and you can ME and PE research them to your preference. The disadvantage is that they vary in price range from a few thousand isk to some such as battleships costing a few billion. The disadvantage of BPC are that they are limited in how many you can build before you need to purchase a new one. How you approach purchasing BPO and BPC is up to you and your wallet.

Eve ISK Guide – RMR Factories

RMR brought a huge change to how factories are operated. When you bring up the factory screen, choose MANUFACTURING from the drop down menu. Then in the location box, choose the station you wish to build at. On the bottom half of the screen you will then see a list of factories in that station along with those that are ready (NOW) for build orders. After selecting a factory, at the bottom right hand corner of the screen you will find the install button, choose that and a small ingame popup screen will appear, where you then choose the blueprint to install, the hanger where your materials are located (input) and the hanger where you want them to be delivered (output). Special Note * when you go to choose your blueprint to install, it will show you every single blueprint that is loose in your hanger or corps hanger if you have corp hanger access. So it is best if you keep all that you are not building with at the moment stored in cargo or station cans kept in your hanger. This will save you a ton of headaches. After you have chosen your input/output, you will then choose how many runs you wish to build followed by pressing the OK button. You will then be greeted with the material and build costs quote screen where you can review how much material is needed for the build as well as how much the factory job fees with be. Fees are based on the factory job rental plus time needed and vary from job to job. After reviewing the quote screen, choose INSTALL and your build begins. Unfortunately, the factory installation screens are slow right now and sometimes appear to hang. CCP is aware of this issue and are looking into it so for now if this happens just press the button a second time and wait 30 seconds as that usually clears up the installation lag. Build status is located in the JOBS tab on the factory screen. Just choose your search and hit go and it will bring up your chosen search string. The green READY status means it is ready for pickup. Simply highlight the ready build by clicking on it in the JOBS window and in the lower right corner the DELLIEVER button will appear, choose that and your build pops out in the output hanger you specified when starting the job.

With the right skills and knowledge of basic factory operation, you will be well on your way to becoming a T1 building master. And don’t forget to train those skills to level 5, because you cannot begin T2 builds without them.

Eve ISK Guide – Pirate Hunting

April 10th, 2010 admin No comments

Eve Isk Guide – Pirate Hunting

Many people start out in EVE thinking they have to spend days mining ore to make money. This is not the case. Mining is the easiest and cheapest way to make some isk but there are many other ways.

Eve Isk GuideIn this article, you will learn about pirate hunting as a mean of income. This is a much more exciting path and often filled with danger but it’s also a lot more fun for players that like more action, but mining in deep space is still a very exciting endeavor as you run the risk of being attacked by NPCs.

While the starting ship is no power house of death-dealing, with a small investment in some cheap weapons and by using the Civilian Shield Booster you get from doing the tutorial it can be more than adequate to kill some low level pirates.

At the end of the tutorial and the first set of tutorial agent missions, a new player should have around 15,000 ISK. Take some of this cash and buy a cheap weapon. If your ship can handle the CPU and power costs, get 2 of them.

Next buy some good ammunition. Stats can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you will catch on eventually. Try to get ammo that does a good range of damage but also has a low negative range modifier. Antimatter ammo, for instance, does more damage than most other ammunitions but it has a -50% modification to range. It doesn’t matter how much damage you do if you can’t hit a target from a decent range.

Next make sure the guns and the civilian booster are mounted using the in-station, guns loaded, and extra ammo in the cargo hold; time to go hunting. The best place to start out as a new pirate killer is in 0.8 security space. Find a sector with lots of asteroid belts and patrol the belts. Most pirates in 0.8 solar systems are relatively weak and don’t travel in groups.

Make sure you have the autoscanner open and when you see a pirate right mouse click on the entry on the radar and target lock it. You can also spot them in space as small “+” signs, be sure to I. D. before you lock on to it. This can be done from the radar by double clicking on the entry there or by right mouse clicking on the “+” sign in space. Ensure that you do not lock on to innocent NPCs such as CONCORD, Navy, or Tradeships. NPC pirates also have their faction in front of their name for better identification, i.e. “Blood” Raider, “Sansha’s” Beast, “Angel” Impaler, “Serpentis” Smuggler, or “Guristas” Terrorist.

With the target identified as a hostile and locked. You can use the “orbit – X km” command to ensure you stay away from the target and shoot at it while orbiting, the X being the optimal range of your weaponry. To do this, right click on the target or the representing autoscanner line. In most cases, especially in the high security systems, players have longer weapon ranges than NPC pirates. If everything goes well, you should take very few hits and the NPC pirate should explode quickly.

Loot the cargo container. It may have something you can use, sell or recycle. Congrats on your first kill and your first bounty. The lowest level pirates are usually worth 1000 to 1500 ISK, and the loot in it can be worth twice that or even more.

As you work your way up and get better ships with better set ups, you can start to adventure down to low sec. While it is more risky the reward is much greater. In low sec you can hunt pirates with battleships, each has a bounty of about 1.5 Million ISK! So hunting pirates in low sec in Eve Online can bring you quite alot of ISK!
