Eve ISK Guide - Courier Missions Guide

A courier mission is a mission that you receive from an NPC agent where the agent asks you to either bring an item to the agent’s station from another station, or the agent asks you to deliver an item to another station. The key things to consider when running a courier mission are whether your ship is fast enough, has enough cargo capacity, and has enough defenses to make it safely from your starting point to your destination and back again.

Eve ISK Guide – Cargo Capacity

Level 1 courier missions probably won’t require you to have much cargo capacity in your ship to carry the items you need to transport. However, higher level courier missions tend to require a large amount of cargo capacity for you to be able to transport the goods in one trip. Sometimes, if the route that you need to take isn’t too long or dangerous, it’s OK to make multiple trips, but sometimes that just won’t work.

In order to have enough cargo capacity, you might be able to buy an Expanded Cargohold module that will expand your cargo capacity enough to carry all of the items that you need to transport. However, be aware that this will make you more vulnerable, because the extra cargo space reduces your ship’s structural hit points. Additionally, it might be the case that there just isn’t an Expanded Cargohold module that gives you enough of an increase in cargo capacity for you to be able to transport the goods in one trip.

An alternative option is to buy a larger ship that has adequate cargo space. Think carefully before making such a large investment, however. You want to choose a ship that is fast, but that also has decent defensive capabilities, especially if your route will take you through dangerous areas of space. You should also choose a ship that you will want to use again. It would be unwise to buy a ship that you only really want to use once.

Eve ISK Guide – Staying Safe

Sometimes a courier mission can take you through dangerous territory. If you’re unsure about whether you can protect yourself against an attack from another player, go into the map view control panel, and set autopilot to choose the safest route from your starting point to your destination, and set the safety penalty slider to the highest number. Your ship will avoid low security space if possible.

If you will have to go through low security space, you should consider having a Microwarpdrive fitted to your ship, or some other propulsion enhancement, to give you a way to run away from an enemy who is trying to attack you. (The guide to not getting killed has more details about how to run away when you don’t want to fight.) When transporting cargo through low security space, you should be on your guard at all times, and warp away from any dangerous players that appear.

You could also fit weapons to your ship, but generally, since you are on a courier mission, it tends to be best to equip modules that increase your speed, rather than using up your fitting slots on weapons.

Eve ISK Guide – Finishing the Courier Mission

If your agent wanted you to take something from the agent’s station to some other station, the way to complete the mission is to click on the mission agent under “Agents of Interest” in the station information window, then tell the agent that you completed the mission.

If your agent wanted you to bring something to the agent’s station from another station, you do the same thing. As long as the requested item is in your cargohold or your hangar in the station, the mission will complete once you tell your agent you completed the mission

Eve ISK Guide – Mission Running

Making ISK in EVE can be tough. Fortunately, one of the easiest ways to make a little spare cash is available to everyone: Agents. You were exposed to several agents in the course of your tutorial, and probably ran a mission or two. Though it starts slow, running missions is a way to get your bankroll, especially once you start getting into the higher levels.

Missions can be fun and offer a wide range of experiences. They can also be last long and give little reward. However, sometimes you are able to get some nice items in missions, especially when you mission is to blast some pesky pirates into oblivion. Those combat oriented quests are called kill-missions and offer the opportunity to hunt NPCs in your private area with some extra cash thrown in.

Missions also earn you Loyalty Points. This is your Frequent Flyer mileage in EVE. Each corporation keeps a separate record of all missions you completed for them. Loyalty Points can then be spent like cash in exchange for items, blueprints or even rare faction ships.

Eve Isk Guide – Agents

Each agent is described by four parameters: corporation, division, level and quality. It’s always better to pick one corporation and work for it. That way you’ll accumulate Loyalty Points and your standings (the corporation’s view of your character) will increase steadily, giving you access to more profitable missions. Division determines the agent’s responsibility. Kill missions are easily obtained from Security, Internal Security, Intelligence and Command division agents. Level determines the difficulty (and reward) of the mission. It also gives an idea of a ship class you need to succeed. Level 1 missions are easily done in a frigate or a destroyer. For Level 2 cruisers work best. You can also use a cruiser for some Level 3 encounters but a Battlecruiser (BC) is strongly recommended. To attempt Level 4 missions you’ll need a Battleship with good equipment and strong skills. In return you can easily make 50 million ISK per hour (or more) including salvage and loot from Level 4 missions. The final attribute, quality, determines your cash reward and also slightly influences difficulty. Quality -19 mission will be much less profitable and a bit easier than quality 20 mission of the same level.

If you can’t pick the corporation to work for, start with your race’s military. That means Amarr Navy, Caldari Navy, Republic Navy or Federation Navy. They offer good rewards and good quality kill missions of all levels. Use the agent finder linked above or watch the video tutorial.

To maximize your profits, make sure you salvage the wrecks. Dedicated mission runners should also consider training the skills below at least to level 4. Once you get to this level, you can start making some serious ISK.

Eve ISK Guide – Mission Running Tips and Tricks

* During a conversation with an agent you can read the description of a mission you’re about to receive (the ‘more details’ dialogue option). Try to avoid missions against other races’ navies and rogue drones as there is no bounty on them. You can refuse a mission offer once in 4 hours without fear of losing standings.
* Try to find a system with two or more agents available. That way you’ll have a better chance of getting a profitable and enjoyable mission.
* You can scout a new mission type in a cheap, disposable shuttle. That way you can safely check what’s waiting for you in the first deadspace location. You’ll probably lose the shuttle but NPCs won’t fire on your capsule. It’s better to lose a 9.000 ISK shuttle than a 10 million ISK cruiser.
* CONCORD can appear in a mission area in high-sec so watch your fire!

There are many of ways of making ISK in Eve Online. Some of the best ways of making ISK are the following:

Mining

Mining is one of the simplest activities in the game. You go out in an asteroid belt, you start your mining lasers, you launch your mining drones (if you have any), and you haul the ore you mine in a station to be used later. It’s a boring activity which appeals to some people since it leaves you with time to do something else such as chat with corpmates, make strategic plans, or anything else which requires a modicum of concentration. You will want to progress to the Hulk Mining Ship and head to 0.0 space to mine the best materials. Mining can be boring at times, but it is very rewarding.

Mission Running

There are many types of missions for mission running, which we will go into detail later on. The main missions you will find for mission running are courier, trade, kill and mining missions. To be honest the rewards in the beginning are pretty poor, but if you have a friend or someone from your corp with you, it can be a more interesting experience. As you increase your standings you wil be able to take on more rewarding missions. Generally rewards are pretty low until you hit L3 with an agent. Overall Mission running can be fun, but not as rewarding as other Isk making techniques.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing is one of the best ways of making Isk in Eve Online. Eve Online players are always wanting to buy items to further themselves or there ships. And of course replacing ships lost in battle. You can be the one to supply them will these goods which in return they will supply you with their ISK. The only real problem with Industry in Eve Online is that to make items you need to get your hands on blueprints, these blueprints can cost a lot and it can be time consuming researching them.

Trading

In a nutshell, trading is buying something for a loew price in one region and then selling it for a higher price in a different region. Sounds simple enough, but in fact this is probably the hardest, yet most profitable path to go down. Technically you could try to buy and sell at the same station, but you would be lucky to see a good return in this. Isk can be lost as quickly as it is earnt in this area so make sure you are prepared before taking this path.

Ratting

Ratting is basically going around asteroid belts hunting down enemy NPCs. This can be good for new characters to start with, as generally you will only find a few of them together and they are VERY easy to kill. But if you really want to get into ratting, you will need to be prepared to go into low sec and maybe even 0.0, to reap the best rewards.

Exploration

The shipboard scanner is only able to find “encounters” (almost the same as a mission) but you have a slightly higher chance (compared to belt-ratting) to encounter faction or even commander NPC spawns dropping valuable loot. Using probes you can find various other things (including entries into wormhole “wildspace”), but this is best left to explain in much more detail in a seperate post.

PvP

Pvp can be a good way to make Isk but we do not consider it the best way. If you want to go down this road you will need to have alot of knowledge about PvP as there are alot of experienced fighters out there. Also training the right skills and coming up with the right ship setup is critical and may take some time.
